Credit-Got Any?

Should we be giving the Yankees any credit for this 10 game winning streak?

When the Yankees were 12-19, we were ready to write them off. Heck, the owner of the team was ready to write them off. They were old. They were underperforming at just about every position. Their pitching could not get a Little League team out and their bullpen was even worse. They had a guy playing first base who nobody likes very much and even the "untouchable" manager was starting to come under fire.

Those were the good ol' days. The days when the Yankees could not get out of their own way. The days when it looked like they would battle the Tampa Bay Devil Rays for last place in the American League East. Unfortunately, those days are gone. Now they have won 10 games in a row and are two games over .500 for the first time since they were 2-0. They are still in fourth place, but they have gained ground on the Baltimore Orioles and the Boston Red Sox. So, the question remains: Should we give them any credit for this run?

Why should we credit them with this amazing turn around? The two teams they have defeated during this run are a combined 30-48 on the season. The Oakland A's are the worst hitting team in baseball with a .229 batting average. Sounds like the perfect team for a struggling pitching staff. No, I won't give them any credit. Why should we give them any credit? This is a team with a payroll that is four times as much as Oakland. They only credit the Yankees deserve is a credit check to see if they are worthy of anymore admiration from Yankee fans who should be on strike from this team.

As long as the Yankees remain a flawed team, credit will not be tossed their way. Do you think Tino Martinez can keep up this 20 home run pace for the month of May? I don't think so either. Credit must be earned, not stolen.
